Refurbishment and Redesign of open plan office – Downham Market
A Spacious & Safe Office for CGM
Our challenge was fitting more people into an open plan office, while increasing the hygiene of work stations
This project began with Acorn Works assessing CGM’s existing open plan offices and devising a new design to modernise the space, increase capacity and build in Covid-protection measures. As well as increasing the head count, it was also important to allow enough room for the office to function and ensure all the walkways were of sufficient size.
We started by looking at types of furniture and how CGM were currently using the space. The old curved style workstations aren’t well suited to the flat screens of today, so we recommended a more modern desk configuration.
After the creation of an initial 2D space plan, we started to look at final finishes in terms of desk colours, fabric colours, wall colours, new flooring and also updated LED flat panel lighting. To enable the client to visualise the finished office space, 3D Renders were created from our in-house design team to give a photo-realistic set of images (see below).

The renovation started with a strip out of the existing furniture and the alteration of existing electrical and data points to suit the new layout. Floor tiles were removed and the walls were prepared ready for a fresh new look that fit with the corporate theme. A internal window was also retro-fitted into one of the meeting rooms to permit vision into the main office area and vice versa.
Meanwhile new lights where installed to the existing ceiling grid which had been edited to suit the new flooring layout and feature walkway. This created a modern open space ready for the furniture to be installed.
With the use of natural effect MFC worktops, new rectangular workstations were fitted complete with cable management, upholstered screen divides, personal storage and seating.
Importantly, a new addition of hygiene protection screens, fabricated in clear acrylic, were also fitted to increase the safety of working areas.
Project Challenges
A tight schedule was put in place to ensure that the office renovation could be completed within a week. As part of the speedy turnaround, the decoration works were carried out out of hours.
The transformation was completed within a week as agreed, on time and on budget.
