Laboratory Refurbishment – Ely, Cambridgeshire

Within the sensitive industry of healthcare research and development, clean rooms and this laboratory refurbishment have to be constructed and equipped to exceptional specifications. They are effectively self-contained hygienic cells that have to be maintained and cleaned to meticulously high standards. 

Working closely with the client, Acorn designed and installed the new room in accordance with these requirements. The allocated space first required the stripping out of the existing services including lighting, electrics and plumbing, and the removal of existing partition walls.

New partition walls were installed to create the space along with a suspended ceiling complete with new sealed clean room light fittings and an integrated air handling and filtration system. New vinyl flooring, selected for its hygiene and performance levels, was laid and sealed in place. 

Flush secondary glazed units were fitted to external windows to aid cleaning and specialist doors were fitted, these were finished with non-standard glazing and, like the walls and ceiling, sealed and painted in an anti-bacterial paint finish to leave a completely smooth wipe down surface.
